Documentation
Stats Audit documentation.
Everything you need to install, use and configure Stats Audit.
Installation
- Download the latest Stats Audit zip.
- In WordPress, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin, choose the zip and click Install Now.
- Click Activate. The table that stores visits is created automatically.
- Open Stats Audit in the admin menu.
You can also upload the stats-audit folder to /wp-content/plugins/ and activate it from the Plugins page.
The dashboard
The Dashboard tab shows four headline cards at the top (Unique Visitors, Page Visits, Avg. Time on Page and Countries) followed by the report widgets:
- Visit Trends
- Top Pages
- Visitors by Country
- Traffic Sources (with referrers)
- Campaigns (UTM)
- Devices
- Browsers
- Operating System
- New vs. Returning Visitors
- Bounce Rate
- Top Entry Pages
- Top Exit Pages
If a widget says “No data yet”, no visits have been recorded for that period.
Periods & metrics
Use the buttons above the chart to choose a period. Every widget on the dashboard updates to match.
- Hourly: the last 24 hours
- Daily: the last 30 days
- Weekly: the last 12 weeks
- Monthly: the last 12 months
- Annually: the last 6 years
The Visits and Avg. Time (s) buttons switch what the Visit Trends chart shows.
Filtering by country
Click a country in Visitors by Country to filter the whole dashboard to visitors from that country. A “Filtered by” label appears; click it again, or use the clear button, to go back to all countries.
Arranging widgets
Drag the headline cards and the report widgets to reorder them. Your layout is remembered in your browser, so it stays the same next time you open the dashboard.
Settings
Open the Settings tab on the Stats Audit page.
Display Name
The name shown for the plugin in the admin menu and on its page. Change it to white-label the plugin, with no code edits.
Exclude Admins
When ticked (the default), visits from logged-in users who can manage the site are not recorded.
Country Lookup
When ticked (the default), the visitor’s country is looked up from their IP address using ipapi.co. Only the country name is saved, and results are cached for 12 hours. Untick it to keep all lookups off; countries will then show as Unknown.
Updates
Stats Audit checks the TechDirect Studio release server for new versions. Updates appear in Dashboard > Updates and on the Plugins page, and install like any plugin from WordPress.org. See the release notes for what changed in each version.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account with an analytics service?
No. Stats Audit runs entirely inside your WordPress site. There is nothing to sign up for.
Where is the data stored?
In a table in your WordPress database, alongside the rest of your site’s data.
Why don't my own visits show up?
Exclude Admins is on by default, so visits from logged-in administrators are not recorded. Turn it off under Settings if you want to include them.
Why do some visitors show as “Unknown” country?
The country is Unknown when Country Lookup is switched off, when the visit comes from a local or private network address, or when the lookup service doesn’t return a result.
Are IP addresses stored?
No. The IP address is only used in the moment to build a daily visitor hash and, if enabled, to look up the country. Only the hash and the country name are saved.
Can I rename the plugin for a client site?
Yes. Change the Display Name under Settings and it is used in the admin menu and on the dashboard.
How do I update Stats Audit?
New versions appear under Dashboard > Updates and on the Plugins page, and install like any other plugin update.
