How It Works

From upload to lighter page.

See how PixEncoder works, from upload to WebP delivery, and how the smaller file reaches your visitors.
The journey of an image

Four steps, all on your own server.

PixEncoder uses the image library built into PHP, so images are converted on your own server and never uploaded to an outside service.

1

Choose the image

Tick it on the Images screen and press Optimise selected, or press Optimise on its row.

2

The original is kept safe

The original image is never changed during WebP conversion. If original compression is enabled, PixEncoder first saves an untouched backup so the image can be restored exactly.

3

WebP copies are made

The image and every size WordPress made of it are converted. A copy that comes out bigger than its original is thrown away.

4

Visitors get the smaller file

Browsers that support WebP are sent the copy on the same address. Older browsers get the original.

Setting up

No API key. No account.

Everything is done from your WordPress admin.

Install

Upload the zip under Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin and activate it. PixEncoder is ready straight away. Start a 7-day trial or enter a licence key under PixEncoder > Licence & Updates.

Check Settings

Open PixEncoder > Settings to choose formats, quality, backups and how WebP is delivered. The defaults suit most sites.

Optimise

Open PixEncoder > Images, tick the images you want and press Optimise selected. Progress shows as each one finishes.
