How It Works

From page view to report.

What happens behind the scenes when someone visits your site, and how it ends up on your dashboard.

The journey of a visit

Four steps, all on your own server.

Stats Audit adds a small script to your site’s pages. It reports each visit back to your WordPress site, which stores it and builds the reports.

1

A visitor opens a page

The page address and title, the referring site and any UTM tags in the link are sent to your WordPress site in the background.

2

Filters are applied

Requests from bots, crawlers and link previews are ignored. If Exclude Admins is on, your own visits are skipped too.

3

The visitor leaves

When the tab is closed or hidden, the time spent on the page is sent and added to that visit.

4

You open the dashboard

Pick a period, switch between visits and time, filter by country, and read the reports.

Setting up

No tracking code. No account.

Everything is done from your WordPress admin.

Install

Upload the zip under Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin, then activate it. The database table is created for you.

Adjust Settings

Open Stats Audit > Settings to set a display name, exclude administrators and turn country lookup on or off.

Read Your Reports

Open Stats Audit > Dashboard. Reports fill in as visits arrive.
