Trust Armory started as a personal compliance project built for my own websites. What began as a simple tool would eventually evolve into something much bigger.
WHERE IT STARTED
1 - It Started with Compliance.
Trust Armory began as a compliance project built for my own WordPress websites.
It wasn’t originally intended for public release.
I simply wanted a straightforward way to manage consent records, generate policies and maintain compliance without relying on external platforms or complicated workflows.
I built this because I needed it.
The goal was simple: create a compliance tool that gave me more control over my data, records and configuration without forcing me into another service.

Trust Armory v1.0

This was the original Trust Armory installation, created for personal use so i could manage my own WordPress websites. At this stage the project focused entirely on compliance management, consent records and policy generation. The protection and recovery features that would later define the Armory did not yet exist.
THE EVOLUTION
2 - The Project Quickly Grew Beyond Its Original Purpose.
What started as a simple personal project quickly began to evolve.
As I continued using Trust Armory, new ideas and requirements naturally emerged.
Consent management led to configurable cookie categories.
As the platform matured, script management was introduced to simplify the handling of third-party services and tracking technologies.
Policy generation was introduced to simplify documentation, while the Compliance Assistant helped translate compliance requirements into practical recommendations.
Without ever setting out to build a commercial product, Trust Armory had evolved from a basic compliance tool into a comprehensive self-hosted compliance platform.

A COMPLETE PLATFORM
3 - The Original Goal Had Been Achieved.
By this stage, Trust Armory had grown far beyond its original purpose.
What began as a simple compliance project had evolved into a mature self-hosted platform capable of managing consent, generating policies, maintaining records and centralising privacy information within WordPress.
THE NEXT CHALLENGE
4 - Compliance Wasn't the Only Problem.
With the original goal achieved and Trust Armory established as a mature compliance platform, another challenge began to emerge.
One that had nothing to do with compliance.
Plugin updates.
Most updates completed without issue, but when they failed, the consequences could be significant.
A plugin conflict, unexpected error or incompatible update could quickly turn a routine maintenance task into hours of troubleshooting, recovery and lost time.
The more websites I managed, the clearer it became that website owners needed more than compliance tools.
They needed a safer way to update their websites, reduce risk and recover quickly when things went wrong.
This realisation marked a significant turning point in Trust Armory’s development.
The project was no longer just about helping website owners manage compliance. It was about helping them protect their websites and recover when things didn’t go according to plan.

5 - The Armory Begins.
The solution started with a simple idea.
Before updating a plugin, create a backup of it.
The first version of Plugin Backup was intentionally simple. A plugin could be selected, backed up and stored locally before an update was performed, providing a quick way to recover if something went wrong.
It wasn’t yet integrated into the WordPress Plugins page. There were no recovery points, rollback options or one-click restore functionality.
But it marked the beginning of something important.
For the first time, Trust Armory was helping website owners protect their websites, not just manage compliance.
